Unfortunately, there's not much point in doing a twin turbo modification to any four cyl engine.
The exhaust gas velocity needed to spool and make usable power isn't enough from just two cylinders per turbo. Unless you used tiny turbo's like from a Diahatsu or Suzuki. The turbine and compressor sizes from these tiny items would help the blowers come onto boost a little easier. But, i personally think that it would be a waste of time, money, headaches and piping. I also think that if it was a beneficial project, that a manufacturer would have made a production car with this configuration. There were most likely a few R&D sections that tried and tested it, but found way too many complications in producing decent usable power. The twins prolly wouldn't kick in until around 4500-5000rpm due to low exhaust gas velocity below these revs. I'd love to know if and what manufacturers have tried this, and what the exact final findings were. But, the projects were prolly scrapped after their first dyno run.
If the idea was used on a big bore, long stroke 4 cyl of maybe a three litre capacity, maybe then a recipe could be cooked up. But as a said, with only two ports per turbo to provide spooling, on a 1.6 - 2 litre it'd be virtually pointless - unless you built the engine to run that way. eg: lightened internals, balanced, blueprinted, cam, specialised head porting, 7000rpm handling, etc.....
