hi guys, i have got a list of mods i am gonna aim to do in the next year, but i need a logical order of what to do. because this is my first car, i'm pretty clueless about mechanical shit, so i am asking for a hand at this. my girlfriends dad is a mechanic ace with NA engines, but i wanna turbo mine, so yeah. well here is what i wanna do

typical shit like 17"s, suspension kits *what ones?? i wanna lower it*
VL brakes
paint it
tint the windows
interior, all the pansy cosmetic shit

i am leaning towards a g200. i read in a hot 4's mag you can pick up the efi DOHC engines for about a grand or so? what other electrical mods do i need to do to get it up and running, and is it worth turboing over the other SOHC engine?

what turbo should i get, i want it for a cruise car, but something i can reliably use as a daily driver and as a bit of fun

what i am ultimately getting at is, where the fuck do i start, what do i need for my gem to beat SS's out there, something quick, but something reliable. i wanna ultimately hit 13's/14's, but i still want it to be a daily drivable car

thanks heaps, i know this is a full newbie wank, but hey, we all had to start somewhere, and my theory is, if i'm gonna mod the gem, i may as well do it properly

ps, no rice intended in this post
Andrew

the DOHC G200 is gerat... IF you can find it with g/box. not an easy thing to fing by itself.
theres soo many fj and sr conversions getting done you will probably be able to get this done relatively cheap (compared to doing it to say.. a 68 vdub!) coz its done so much engine mounts can be made to order. See/ phone sams performance in padstow (sydney) they are gemini specialists... they are the shit.
These engine have soo many after market bolt-ons you can name your qtr mile time and guaranteed some one has done it in a gem with these engines. FJ is similar but older than the SR.
The other good conversion is the Hilux engines.

If it was me id go
breaks (gotta have fat breaks)
while they are at it slap in some springs
leave the commodore stud pattern on the vl discs and run some hsv wheels.. (later run stockers for now) If running 5 stud is possible?? (offset etc)
Then tints and interior... this way its a just a gemini with tints as far as the world is concerned.
Then do engine and spraying last.

Thats me.

hey, i started 3 years ago and am still not finished.
i got the 17's, the paint, interior and turbo charged g200 dohc.

mind you i went through 2 engines, 2 sets of wheels and 2 sets of interior.

my advice would be to work out your budget and do it right the first time.

good luck
-Andrew.

Suspension, then brakes (do front as well), then rims as you will find out pretty quick what fits eg offset. Then start on performance, however with any upgardes to performance, remember you will have to strengthen your drivetrain as well. All along through this you can do small cosmetic changes, eg tint interior, etc, 5 stud conversions are expensive, look at a round $400 to $500, i've done it... That is the correct and most logical way to modify a car
