seems too hav a fair bit off play... how do i ajust this too make it more firmer, & responsive?

the wheel itself isnt the problem... check the tyre road end for heaps of wear. these are ball joints near the tyres when worn give the rims play. IF its just the wheel the horn section comes off and teres a bolt there...

its not just the steering wheel thats all pretty tight...

its something too do with the steering rack or the ball joints as u said...

ill hav a look 2morrow.

yea do that, steering is one thing you dont wana fuk around with. breaks (handbreak 4 180's excluded) are somethiong i can do without... steering and subs = priority.

Jack up the front of the car and grab the front and back of each wheel and wiggle it to see if there is any free play. You can slide the rubber dust boot off too and see if the free play is just in the tie rod ends or extends to the steering rack. It's fairly easy to replace the tie rod ends, I did it a while ago and wrote up a workshop article, but it never got published Sad

Could be wheel bearings (but they'd make a pulsating howling noise). Could be the bolts connecting the pinion to the rack are loose. This will give play. Could be a worn rack or pinion. Could be an old coupling with movement in it. Or as said before the tie rod ends.
