I've just started having some problems with my TC.

When I came out of work the other day, I went to change into 2nd gear and the car started shaking and jolting. Power was off then on then off etc. I pulled over, let it run some more then took off again and the same happened. I popped the bonnet and checked it out.The fuel was flowing at a good rate filling the fuel bowl no problems. I drove off again and I could feel it about to start cutting out again but I backed off the accelerator and managed to avoid it. The next day it ran fine, but later that night it did it again. I had already been driving for a little while before it happened all of a sudden. This has happened two times before but that was with the old engine in. It keeps on stalling in the cold even though it has warmed up.

Any ideas what is wrong? It seems like a fuel blockage but I'm not sure.

Adrian.

Could be your fuel filter is partially blocked, sometimes, after you pull over, due to the engine using bugger all fuel at idle, the bowl will fill, but under load whilst accelerating, the demand on fuel is more than what the blocked filter will let through, and the bowl runs dry. What you might want to try is as soon as it starts cutting out, turn off the ignition, and then pull over and check the bowl. It might be dry.

That fact that you said you backed off and it ran fine also suggests a fuel supply problem. Could also be a blocked pump, fuel line, or faulty pump. I would check the filter first though.

Another cause could be a blockage in the carb.

It could also be ignition related. If, when it cuts out, its exactly like you have turned off the key, then you could be losing power to your ignition system. Usually though, an ignition problem is associated with poor performance, not a complete cut out.

If you suspect its the filter take it off and try and blow through it in the direction the fuel flows... it should be really easy to blow through. If it's not then you've found the problem
