somethin is up with the rear end of my gemini
its a 79 TE, and there is a really wierd thing happnin int he rear end of my car which is hard to explain... i'll try my best
it started off a week ago, and i could only notice it when i was below 30kph, and it was a pretty minimal unsteadyness in the whole movement of the car... when it was slowing down for a t junction or a roundabout, it wouldnt roll smoothly, it would sortof jolt a bit as if only have the revolution of the rear wheels is smooth. it got really worse yesterday all of a sudden, i was planning to drive into the city and it was doing the same thing, but it was alot worse. i was doing 80kph, and the whole rear end was vibrating like a slut, same thing as i described earlier but a lot worse ( as youd expect, being 50kph faster). i was so bad that some silicone holding in my rear speaker mounts popped off and the 6x9 was jumping all over the rear shelf. i'm pretty sure its comingfromt he passenger side rear.
sorry my details are... well.. crap, but i dont know how to really explain it in words.
any help would be highly appreciated, and if this has happened to anyone else, can you give a brief guideline as to how much of the folding stuff fixed hte problem? |

thanx for the suggestions everyone... yeah i have got a retread on the cluprit side of the car, as i havent touched the tyres since i bought it a fortnight ago. i'll jack the car up and check it all out tomorrow...
ps. the shocks looked near new when we jacked the car up when i bought it, and the car springs back perfectly when i put some pressure on it, so i'd be reluctant to blame that. i'll check out this retread issue.... |

isolated the problem area now.... i jacked the car up, changed the tyre, and now the wheel is sitting on an angle... i'll draw the angle as best as i can....
(picture the whole rear axle here)
birdseye view> \----| (note the angle i've put the tyre on....
view from ground, rear of car> \---|
so you can see that the whole rear wheel is sitting inwards froim the bottom, also bent out of place, as if it was making a slight lefthand turn :S... if it was a 4ws i wouldnt be worrying right now, haha...
one thing that might be worth noting is that after i bought the car i noticed that the car sat higher at this point, for whatever reason. at the time i thought nothing of it, as my old gemini did the same thing and never had a problem....
any MORE suggestions would be good |

found out the problem.
reason the wheel was on an angle: stupid me changed the wheel in the dark, never checked the spare rim since i bought it.... it was buckled.... haha
had a look at the tyre that was on it before, the wall of the tyre is curved inward, so its basically fucked... price you pay for buying retreads i guess.... so tomorrow i'm gonna get a tyre put on a camira rim i've got sitting around.
anyway thanx everyone for their suggestions, i'll email the site owner some pics of the car for the gallery soon, |
