Hi people, as the topic says I need a little help with choosing a new engine for my TE.

I am not sure whether I want to go for a V8, or a turbo 6 cyl if it's poss.

I'm also wondering what upgrades I would need to make to fit either a V8 or turbo of reasonably high power.

Which engines are able to be fitted into a gem?

Geez, ummm, let me think now, how about a SEARCH DAMMIT!!!!

if you use the lovely function at the top of the screen, you will get more info than you can process.

if you want big power and dont care how much you spend, then there really are no limits. if you are like most of us, then perhaps you should just warm up a 1600-2ltr izuzu, and wait till you get some better finaces.

but if you have money to waste on overkill, then i say go for either a fj20det, or a 12a/13b turbo. you dont need a v8, they are heavy, and pushrods suck.

then its brakes, engineering, and a heap of other shit.

so plan.
and search.

hope this helps you.
rob.

Hmmmmmm LEXUS V8 engine in a Gemini, do that bro.....
I would go V6 over V8, make sure the V6 is turbo'd though..or go and get ya'self a real motor like a 12a or a 13b or a 4 mate!

yeah Rob V8's r too heavy and push rods do suck...go the FJ20DET or the 12A or 13B or either an SR20DET conversion shouldn't be too hard to fabriacate, have seen it done in a back issue of HOT4S!

why do people only consider nissan engines and rotaries worthwhile to put into a gem, there are more to the world than nissan and mazda.

it doesnt hurt to have a bit of imagination and creativity, we've all seen rotors, FJ20s, SR20s etc one conversion i would love to see and hear is an EJ20 (WRX motor), now that would be classy!!

Go the P76 4.4L V8 if you really want a v8. They are all alloy and wouldnt weigh much more than the original 4.

are u stupid stock te? the p76 leylands never really sold much because of their big heavy shitbox engines that chugged fuel like there is no tomorrow. If you really want to be a smartass and try putting a vg30dett in one like im gonna try Very Happy or go a vg20det with a vg30 turbo.

Experiment mate dont listen to these dreamers there not interested in moving outside the square they live in..

Half you tossers explain why you dont like push rods theyve been going strong for years,if you buy shit you get shit, If you dont want to spend the money on their weakest link then expect trouble problem areas my car has been running 11 s for the last 4 years and ive not put a spanner on it
and my engine owes me fuk all.

WTF is this weight thing your on about I got a full chassis full roll cage nine inch huge wheels and tyres V8 engine and full interior and the whole car only weighs 1350kg now you work it out 950kg STD 400kg difference.

Fuk you know it all fuk alls piss me off..

BUT i must ammit I like the sounds of SCARY KLOWNS idea with the vg20det with a vg30 turbo.

cheers

Put in the 13b turbo out of the series 5 Mazda RX7, modify that a bit and you have v8s eating your dust.

was gonna go the VG20ET (v6 single cam single turbo 2L) but the parts for them cost more than the whole engin, its just not feesable. u want bang for buck. not big bucks for bang, or some shit like that, lol.
BTW. i have nothing against push rods. lol, to be honest, i dont even know what they are hahaha

Just to add my 5c worth, have you considered a Rover 3.5L V8 if you are considering the V8 path ? Some states dont allow 13B turbs without a heap of engineering, but a 12A turbs is legal. Depending on funds, you could have a plethora of engine conversions to choose from. Another 5c worth of opinion to make it 10c worth, is that if i could fit absolutely any 4 cyl engine with or without mods, it would have to be the Honda S2000 VTEC 2L. Naturally aspirated with approx. 184KW standard, man if you lowered the compression and fitted forced induction WHOOOOOOOEEEEEEEE!!! Let's just say you couldn't drag me outta a Gem like that. I read about 6 months ago about a dude with an S2000 that had 'The Brock Shop' fit a supercharger to, i cant remember the exact figures but it was along the lines of 250KW and a mountain pulling load of torque.
Anywho, my point being..... re-read my first sentence.
Cheers,
Jasyn...
