I managed to get a bolt through my tire one night.

Took it to the local servo, he ripped the bolt out and stuck this rubber stuff in the hole with a screwdriver. It expands inside the tyre and fills the hole. Cut off the excess outside and thats it.

The whole job took him about 2 mins and it cost me like $10.

You could do it yaself I guess but you would need to buy the special repair rubber stuff. For $10 you can't really complain, even if it is a piss easy job.

From memory theyre onlty aloud to fix punctures in the tread section, the sidewalls due to the load they carry, stresses etc arent aloud to be fixed, as at high speed, cornering loads they could blow out, speak to a tyre joint about it though. Repairs generally cost anywhere between $10 and $30 i think, won't be much cheaper doin it yourself, but i think you're up for a new tyre if its sidewall damage...
