Aaron,

ive recently done a fair bit of research into this topic in the last few weeks, and ive come to the conclusion that a weber is the way to go...

quite simply, as ive been told by all performance centres that i called, a weber will give you "the best bang for ya buck".

my car goes into gemispares on tuesday next week to have a fully reconditioned 32/36 weber fitted and tuned!

cheers,
kev

around the $300 mark, a price im willing to pay after painfully fitting one to my old motor and having to screw around with jets and tuning the damn thing...

the other quotes i received were between $370 and $450

cheers,
kev

There's something i did do to my carb that somehow unbeknownst to me improved the response up higher in the rev range...
Where the accelorator bracket is, there's a thin metal arm or something-or-other that get's pressed when around half throttle is reached. Have a look at it and you'll understand what i'm on about. When you move the bracket by hand, you'll see it come into contact with the thin arm and it presses it as the bracket keeps being turned. I figured it was some sort of actuator or something to open the secondary's on full throttle. It was just a theory... So i figured, why not put a bolt thru the bracket to make the thin arm get actuated sooner? I did this with a small bolt and put two nuts on the other end to help stop it from undoing itself thru carb/engine vibrations. After i did it and took it for a bash, i noticed power came on sooner similar to how a cam would feel. But the most noticeable time it kicks in, is when on the highway sitting on about 100k/ph. I only need to tickle the throttle slightly and it takes off nice and smooth with alot more feeling of torque up hills. There's a little white Mk1 Escort that i race on the highways every now and then. After i did this mod, i found the car actually pulled away from him alot quicker and reached top speeds alot easier. The look on his face was pretty priceless when i told him i just put a bolt thru the accelorator cable and seemed to feel like i picked up a couple of horsepower or NM of torque up top.
Maybe someone can shed some light on what i actually did, as i thought that Gems Nikis where vac secondary's and not mechanical... Either way, the car pulls a little harder so i'm happy with the result.
Cheers,
Jasyn...

I'll see what i can do about getting pics to you. Is there anybody out there that can shed some light on why the thing responds better? Maybe Ben (Wight) might know, as he has played around with a couple of carbs.
