ok this is my bitch for the night.
right....first problem..gem pig rooting when revved to 3500 in 3 4 5... ok starving of fuel i guess.. ok find that the fuel filter is black so i replace it..one of the leads is shorting out...BZZZZZZZT all the way down my arm. replace them all.ok spark plugs a bit dodgy..replace them with new ones..go through whole engine bay looking for leaks and looses nuts.check carby flow (good) all fixed..meanwhile the gem is still shitting itself. find that the fuel pump is not working, and i accidentaly kicked the wire into the fuse box and disconnected it.fixed it....still fucked..pump working though..went to garage and got it looked at today..he said it could be the alternator belt or that little black box near the battery with the points in it. belt is good..try another black box thingy...still fucked..take it for a test drive around the road and it stalls while driving..i put the clutch in and out to give it a kick in the pants start and when i put my foot back on the accelerator i hear this BANG in the engine bay. accelerator not working. probably the accel. cable...no...still there..probably carby backfiring.. anyway walk a few kilometres in the rain back home and get dad to tow me home...tell him not to tow it into the driveway...what does he do...fuck..my front bumper is now warped and broken cos he tried to drive into the driveway when i was not moving.. pull it all off...will need another one now but he says hes not responsible...try to start the car and it goes 3rd time..whoopee..but it is still broken...SHIT...
does anyone have any valuable suggestions at the moment other than "sell the car", i would love to but ive got to get it going first. i now wonder why such a simple, cheap arse car can have so many things go wrong with it.the suspension is fucked for some reason and wont stop clunking, the steering column squeeks, the clutch squeeks and makes a noise like something off sesame street and worst of all i can't be fucked maintaining it to keep the metal cancer away. also it doesn't help that one of my friends was being a dickhead and ran into me the other day. the quote that i got was $268 and all the money will be coming from him. all i can say is this will be my last gemini.
anyway sorry for the long long long post but i thought some people needed a bedtime story and hopefully it will make a few people thankful that they don't have the same problems.
cheers
baz
p.s. is this the record for the longest post???? sorry |

Buy gemini - BIG MISTAKE -
Some dick runs in my ass while driving it home. luckily ok. fuckin camiras.
Needs new rings and bearings as i go through about an oil bottle a week or two.
Buy 2nd hand motor from way2low. $150
it overheats
buy new gaskets, new thermo, new radiator, new hoses, new cap, set timing properly. Still overheats
possibly could be the head.
buy head off mooch $150
re set everything and get baack together $100.
put head on still overheats.
new radiator another new radiator cap.
still overheats and now wont idle when i put the clutch in.
have a g/f that lives 45mins away. so with an overheating car and no funds its hard to see her.
so that money all up is about 700 bucks. then another 150 for the guy to put the motor in for us (dads arm was broken so we couldnt do it)
so thats 950 - just about a grand AND IT STILL OVERHEATS
SO FUCKOFF AND STOP WHINGING |

No offence guyz but 'all' cars break down. They're pieces of machinary and all machinary needs maintenence and wears out.
While I am a mechanic which helps me understand the principles of troubleshooting a little better as I just can't go replacing parts 'willy nilly' on customers cars I honestly believe you guyz need to 'nut out' your problems a little better before just 'jumping in' and attempting to rectify the problem - As the only thing that will come of this is hard earnt money being spent replacing components that wern't faulty in the first place...
For instance, could your Gemini be missing due to an overly lean mixture in one or more cylinders due to an intake manifold gasket leak?! Try running water over areas of the intake manifold and take note of how the engine runs, if it runs worse you have a manifold vacuum leak. And as for the overheating Gemini, is the radiator blocked? Because I can tell you radiators block up all the time, and have you checked the impellor on your water pump? Because it is about the easiest water pump in the world to remove and the gasket will probably cost you about four bucks....
My TD Gemini turbo (see Matt and Cristys TD turbo in the modified section - The gold one) runs a freshly rebuilt by myself G180z Isuzu motor fully built for turbo use with low comp high silicon pistons and a copper head gasket to mention a few of the items running on straight LPG through a Rodeo EFI intake manifold being supplied 10 psi of boosted goodness all from a Garrett T03 high flow ceramic turbo with 45mm external wastegate. The car is in top nick and constantly outruns 5.7 litre 250 kw Comodores and returns 350 kays to a tank of gas. It starts first hit of the key and never overheats even at 10 psi.
But I always think my work and modifications through before peforming them as I want the car to not only be fast, but practical and reliable. |

Lets see....
Commodore, what? 1450kg's or more depending on spec and an 'exaggerated by the factory' 250kw's. Gemini, 850kg's and an estimated 150kw's at the flywheel (130kw's at the wheels) running through a straight cut gearbox out of a Gemini racing car....
I kill the Commodore - And the car all up owes me $2000.00 (bought it as a trade in at my work with a blown motor and all the go fast turbo bits. Built a new, bigger, better motor all at mates rates as i'm a mechanic).
Homes....Give it a rest, I was mearly advising you on how not to get shafted and offering advice. Or are 'all' mechanics useless arseholes? You sent that radiator away to get checked for blockage yet?

Geminis start at 900 kg, not 850.
Commodores models vary in weight, 1500 kg is a good median.
A mechanic should understand what power to weight ratio is. A 150 kw Gemini is equal to a 250 kw Commodore. with those figures, each Kw of power is pushing 6 kgs of car weight.
YOU DO NOT KILL THE COMMODORE AT ALL.
Where did you learn your trade? You sound suss. |

Riiight......
In my previous post I did state that Commodores vary in weight depending on spec, you need to read and comprehend a little better. The Commodore in question looked fairly optioned so I would say that it was far over the 1500 kg mark considering that todays Commodore is becoming more of an 'excutive express' than a lighter family sedan. Acceleration and peformance is also determined by more than just the power output and weight of the vehicles in question, gearing has to be taken into consideration, and my car is definatly geared for acceleration.
And having worked in various peformance workshops and dynoed numerous GenIII Commodores I can tell you that their power outputs are 'optimistic' to say the least.
I KILLED THE COMMODORE.(that's a full stop)
Geezus man, some of these Commodores are getting closer and closer to the magic 2000kg mark. |
