no it means that you are going too fast to put it into 2nd.ever noticed that you have to be going really slow to get it into 1st? let the engine do the breaking but dont put the car in a gear that it is going too fast to handle.its like the car is going 60 in second going up the gears (as in same pressure on the engine).
be patient...use the brakes.also if the engines cold it might grind like mine does going into second..i fixed it by putting the stick down the left hand side of the gearbox as in pushing left and down

It could mean that your syncro's on second gear are worn out. A syncro box shouldnt grind when going into gears. Usually you wouldnt go back to second at 60 unless you really wanna give it a bootfull in which case you really need to double clutch back to second to get the gears closer to the correct speed inside the gearbox making it easier to get into gear and making life easier for your drivetrain. |

The syncros wear out in any gearbox over time. |

changing down gears (normal driving)
down to 3rd at 60km/h
down to 2nd at 40km/h
down to 1st at under 10km/h
thats my "normal" down shifting style...
now for the good bit, shifting up thru the gears!
1st into 2nd at 6500RPM (CHIRP!!)
2nd into 3rd at 7000RPM (no chirp this time, maybe when i get me weber on!)
3rd into 4th at 5500RPM
4th into 5th, relax and wipe the sweat off the hands!
last bit had no relevance i know but i just thought i'd add that in for good measure.
cheers,

|
|
i was told, that to put it in 1st, and to not hurt it, the car has to be at a dead stop, not even when your going real slow can u put it in 1st, i reckon its bullshit, but that's what i was told. so wheneva i can't be fukt stopin, i just drive on the clutch for a bit. gems gears are real short so u don't sit on the clutch for too long. once it's moving u can take off from second.
is this shit true bout not putting it in first, even if she's going real slow - that it has to be a dead stop??? |
