had an interesting experience today
it started about two days ago when cruising near the airport, it would jump out of second gear occasionally. a real bastard.
soon after the gear lever would be really stiff and impossible to put into gear...
today, went to drive it... first all is good... put it in second... no worries.. put the clutch in go to change to another gear but no... still in second gear... put the lever in third.. gearbox still stuck in second.. same for every gear except reverse
when you are rolling just the right speed you can pull it out of second gear and from then on, as long as u dont stick it into second, you can drive it almost normally. you use second gear more than you would think!
anyways took it to my mechanic and its gonna be expensive i rekon, its a bit of a bastard getting the gearbox out of the twincams.
good news is the internals of a dohc gearbox is pretty much the same as the standard gemini box (fine spline) so if it cant be repaired i'll just lose my close ratio box and run a standard one!
what a day.. at least ive got the wagon to hoon around in and will still be at the club meeting on wednesday!

You can get plates that you put in between the twin cam an the normal gemi 5 speed so it would probably be cheaper for you to get a gemi 5 speed an one of these plates. |
