QN 1 : how much power, in kw, should i expect to get, if i:

get a g161 block, bore it to a 1.8, new pistons, rings, get the crank re-done, get the 1.6L head re-co'd with bigger valves, and get a one of those 'wobbly' cams to change the timing of the valves n shit 2 get bigga compression. i would also be running the standard carby, and maybe extractors.

i just want 2 know cos i am thinking of doind this, and want 2 know if it's worth putting in that much money. it's nofin 2 over the top, as i don't want 2 get defected or notin.

thanx. chris.

a stock G161 is not even worth worrying about (35 rw kw). The build you have described should give about 70rw kw, or about 140 flywheel hp
(100% increase). This would give quite good performance, but nothing over the top. Sam performence has done a number of magazine articles over the years detailing this build try and grab a copy of some one. (dont no what they are of the top of my head).
To keep costs down use ACL bearings and pistons. i think sam's p. uses a 30/70 camshaft, has 10:1 comp (or maybe 9.5:1) , stock carby, dizzy, manifold etc. The dizzy is regraphed, carby modified, block zero decked/bored 130thou??(guessing?), head shaved and ported, I think he uses standard valves, but a big valve head??? (may as well get oversize:), yer should be fun..plus you wont have to worry about changing insurance/rego cause it all looks standard;)

cheers

One mag if u can get it is Gemini Fever #1 this has Sam's engine in it but not a lot of detail.
The other one is Gemini Mania #1 this has a build by Ian Diven. with more detail. this is a summary
3mm bore (1704cc final)
crossdrilled crank & hi flow oil pump
190000psi bottom end bolts
10.8:1 comp
custom dome top pistons (notched)
stailess O rings and copper head gasket
double row timing chain
43/75 cam (480thou valve lift)
Sidedraught Dellortos
140hp (104kw)@6500rpm
124ft lb @5000rpm
Total $5k
apparently a little boggy off the mark and between 23-30mpg

for a $1000 you only get the head done, maybe extractors. If you can do it yourself, ie rebuild engine then the machine work and parts should be $2000? Cause remember youll need new wtaerpump, probaly new dizzy parts,(rotor arm, cap etc), leads?, coil, extractors, exhaust, carby modifying, block macine work, pistons, bearings, botom end balancing, gaskets, matched ported inlet manifold etc etc
If you no someone in the trade then $2000 should do it(probaly a bit less), However if not a shop would probaly charge $3000-4000, dont laugh. That what it says in the article. IN perth a place called kosteci engine centre qoutes $3500-$4200 for there 'steet racer' engines (probaly about the same as what you what), You can look at it at

http://www.kec.com.au/msie.htm

cheers
