i got my gem registered, and after a reco eng, and a 4sp, one the way 2 the roadworthy fags to get roadworthy, i noticed the the little gems revs are really high for the speed it is goin, the power is ok, it can go if u give it a kick up the ass, does bout 60 in 2nd, and about 6000 revs, but the revs shit me, the whole point of a little car is so it will take little pertrol, but at 100, i'm assuming it will have bout 4000 or even more, whereas as a skyline, 89, has just under 2000, and would be more economical than the gem.

anything to get round this?

Sounds like you want a 5 speed then. You could try some bigger tyres.

Sounds fine by me, I got similar wheel size and profile.

100Kmh was about 3500rpm in 4th
100Kmh is about 3000rpm in 5th

Methinks your tacho is out, there is no way (unless you have a 4.11 diesel diff) your engine should be doing 6000rpm in 2nd at 60Kmh.

Even with all your revving she will be pretty economical. There is no need to rev the tits off her to get anywhere. Some mods like extractors etc will help coz you don't need to thrash her to keep up.

Cheers

Yup. You won't notice any change in the lower 4 gears, however the 5th makes a huge difference to economy. I can still get roughly 550km per tank on a mild G161. The 5spd TX could get up to 600km per tank (no Weber or extractors etc).

Years ago I took my 4spd TX from central VIC to nth NSW, about 1200km in total. We got about 450km per tank and were revving at 4000+rpm all day (approx 110-120kmh). Needless to say my head was sore from the 10hr drone.

And I'd do it all again Smile
The 5spd slots in dead easy.

yea, that's the only thing i'm curious bout, i just wanted to know the difference between 4sp and 5sp, was the 5 gears in the 5sp, exactly the same as the 4sp, except just spread out over 5 gears, or was the 5th gear like and additional gear.

chris.

5th is an extra gear, called an overdrive. First four are the same.
