fuel starving problem

Hi i own a tf wagon nd recentley did a rebuild on a 1800
but ecncounted some problems when under load or hi revs the engine almost stalls like it starving for fuel it's not the carby because we tryed a webber and the problem was the same or a little worse as the webber uses more fuel. It has a coupe of mods a bigger cam it's bored 20thou. If anyone has had similar problems or knows what the problems is i would apprecite the help.
( we think it's fuel pump not being able to flow enough even though its electric)

Have you checked the float level? But I suppose if you've tried 2 different carbies, and the problem didn't change then there is a good chance it's not the carby. Usually when it's starved of fuel(in my exp. anyway) it stalls completely, not 'almost'. I just realised I probly haven't been much help.

The same thing happened to me about 6months ago. Im guessing you carby isnt getting enough fuel (blocked filter or fuel pump on its way out) That means that when its wide open at high revs the carby would use all the fuel in the float chamber and run out coz its not comming in fast enough...

If you check your fuel pump, you will find that it is only running on about 8 volts, hook it up to a 12 volt power source and see if the situation improves. You can also take out the pump, and stretch the relief valve spring so as to deliver a slightly higher fuel pressure.

Is both of these things fail, then you either need a bigger needle and seat for the carb you are using, or you need a bigger fuel pump.

as ben wright said id check your fuel pump and filter. i got that about 2months ago, problems at high revs. also check your points, condenser and sparks...
but its most prolly the fuel filter. have you run your tank dry lately? might have pick up all the shit in the bottom of your tank, new fuel filter is like $40 max.

I want to thank you ben your a life saver the problems been hassling me for a month and a half. Your idear did work i by passed the 6v resister and now she run's like a dream i was wondering though do you think it was because the fuel pump was worn out a little or becuse of the mods to the engine because i noticed now my fuel filter is full right to the top before it only filled to a quarter.
My mods are 20thou bore
bigger cam
advanced secondary opening
advanced timming
