im trying to take the heads off my g160 and i keep rounding the bloody heads off the rocker cover bolts and its starting to piss me off. ive used the irght size spanners and six face ones too so dont tell me its my spanners. any ideas? thanks

try using a 12mm socket, and be careful. also remember that you are not supposed to do them up too tight (only about 35Nm if I recall, check your workshop manual)

but theyre a 10mm bolt. and im trying to get them off.

try using multi grips when the bolts are rounded.

yeah thanks thats what im doing now, but i cant get enough clearance around the back two coz my injections in the bloody way. this means im going to have to take off the inlet before the head doesnt it?? shit.

You could also try vice grips

You could trye unbolting the vise from your bench carring it over to the car and placing it on the bolt tightening it up and then twisting the vise in circles untill they are loose enough for you to undo them by fingers. Them make sure you get replacement ones from your local wreckers or auto parts place.

Sorry to tell you, but its your spanners. And no, Im not kidding.

Because the height of the bolt heads is so small, most sockets and spanners dont get a propper grip on the faces of the head and slip off. They actually only grab the top corners of the head and not the sides of the head.

get a cheap 10mm socket and rub it on some sand paper for a while, untill the openning of the socket is square, ie, no chamferred or radiused edges. This will give you the most bite on the bolt head.
