Ummmm....

Higher octane allows for more advance / compression....

It don't increase peformance output one bit just by increasing the octane of the fuel....

if your car isnt tuned properly you can get better performance by uping the octane.

OK, first thing would be to get rid of the pollution control gear fitted to that model if you haven't already done so. That is, get an inlet manifold off a tx or tc gemini without the EGR portion on the bottom of it. Secondly, get a set of extractors for the car, as the factory exhaust manifold is the biggest POS. Thirdly, get yourself a nice cam, no more than a stage 2 at the outside for a standard motor. Fourth, get yourself a better carby, something along the lines of a Weber 32\36 off the Cortina 2L and a performance air filter to suit. Fifth, look into rebuilding the complete motor from the ground up, using high compression pistons, balanced bottom end, ported\polished head, oversize valves and so on. Sixth, if this still doesn't satisfy your desire for grunt, then consider going to a 1.8L or a 2L, in either sohc or dohc. And don't forget to do things like your suspension, and most importantly your brakes!! There's no point having all the extra go if you can't pull it up in time. HTH Cheers Smile
