mild porting

I am about to take the head off to fix a blown head gasket, and I thought I might give it a little port while I have it off. I have only dealt with other engines in the past, so I know the general principles, but are there any specific areas in the gem head I should look at? It is a tf, so has the later (small valve) head I guess.

I was going to look at:
valve guides
shrouded valves (combustion chamber)
sharp radius near valves
matching inlet manifold to inlet port
enlarging exhaust ports (depends on size of manifold, want to keep some anti reversion lip)
perhaps doing the penny on a stick trick with the valves

ps I am likely to resurface the head to make sure it is flat. how much should I take off to get a bit more compression?

i seem to be remembering something like "30 thou off the head", but dont quote me..

Try getting it ground to the valve seats, it will probably be about 2-3mm.
