If you're still running the original nikki carby, you may need to get a new accelerator pump kit for it. That's often a reason for the flat spot when you accelerate. Also check the points for correct gap and burns. file (or replace) and reset the gap. Try that for starters, then plugs and leads.
Cheers

you could need to get your carby recon'd
points and condensor are good ones to look at
and all the other things the other guy said |

Yeah mine does the same thing, but my clutch is worn aswell, so it's going worse now. but whenever i put some throttle down, it just jerks around a bit then starts to take off. Or when i drive it a little harder, probably about half throttle to about 3/4 it just starts jerking like hell sometimes even totally cuts out. Or it sounds like its about to Backfire, which it has done once. When it's jerkin around, it sounds like it's gonna die, and even when i'm tryin to rev it, to keep the revs up, it does nothing, i have to keep pumpin the peddle to get some revs otherwise it just stalls, while i'm doing like 60k's or something. If there's an easy fix to this problem, which i doubt, that would be good, but otherwise it doesn't matter, as i've got a g200 with webers, extractors and 2inch system waiting to get put in, just need more money to do it, hehe.

I once saw a Gem that coughed and spluttered at certain speeds and back-fired randomly about twice a week. It had about 4 of us scratching our heads after we installed new points, leads, plugs, inspected rotor button and cap, tuned carby, checked pump, changed fuel filter, checked valve clearances etc. etc.
It ended up being a collapsed baffle in the muffler of all things. It was building up too much back-pressure, then BOOM!! Then run so-so again for another few days then repeat itself. So let that be a lesson - every now and then, you have to think outside the circle (or the engine).

Another "out of the circle" thing could be the electric fuel pump if you have one. They dont go all at once, the intermittently fail once they start to deteriorate. But obviously not, if your jerking is related to throttle action. |
