....drift off into a sleep while your parked! sitting in the driver's seat, and let the dreaming proceed! that's what i do all the time! ...not poking fun mate, actuallly that's exactly the criteria for my next car. i'm looking for a shell to start with though. i was thinking of getting to the 13 mark by using a turbo set-up, of some sorts...still doing the research. but my prerequisites are that i retain an isuzu block though, and i wanna still use the gem 5spd, cos i love the position that it sits in. that's about it, other than a budget of around $3k. all the best mate. keep us posted on your progress. greg.

Do you reckon that it could be done without a great big dirty turbo hanging off it?... hehe

only if you have a big blue bottle of funny gas sitting in the boot. You could spend massive amounts on a N/A twincam, my mate had one with 250hp+ quad throttle bodys stupid amount of port work etc etc etc spend a stupid amount of money on it, much cheeper just bolting on a turbo.

dont think a 13B will give you 13's in a Gem. By the time you've spent all the money to get a normally aspirated to do 13's, you'll probably have a gas guzzler street car that cant idle under 1500 rpm. Cheaper to do a turbo, and have a nice driveable car to boot..

I'd personally recommend an import engine, take your pick from - Isuzu, 4ZC1. Nissan, SR20DET, Z18ET, FJ20DET, CA18DET. Mitsubishi, 4G64, G63B. Mazda, 12A turbo. Toyota, 3SGTE, 4AGE (20 valve), 4AGZE.
There's probably a few that i've missed, but it's a good guideline of choices to pick from. A jap import would give you a good compromise between your time-slip goal and streetability. But the biggest negative and obsticale will be cost. It's gonna cost you heaps unless you can do most of the fabrication and spanner work yourself.
A little food for thought - here on the Gold Coast, there are several Gemini's and Datto 1600's powered by SR20DET's and CA18DET's that run in the 13 sec bracket at Willowbank and are fully engineered and road driven & registered.
