on the subject of brake conversions i was wondering if anybody has tried to fit V8 torana rear discs or V8 drums as they are of the same diff? i feel that if they could stop a V8 kinda alright they should be good on a gem?

I dont know about V8 Torana, but the late gemini diffs share the same brakes as the early commodore. So a quick check with a ruler might prove the converion piontless....Michael

Actually, I suspect you may find that the thickness of the backing plate is wrong, so you end up with no preload on the bearings.

If it could be done I dont think it would make alot of difference due to the fact that the rear brakes only play a minor role in the braking side of things the bias control makes the fronts come on strong with little pressure to the rear just to help in the assistance of stopping but you can buy a adjustable bias valve to control the brakes better

cheers

This maybe so ( I havent measured it) but his main reason was to get bigger brakes, the shoes are the same size ... Late model gem and early VB-VK commo ...
