Hi, my names Tim, im 17 and new to this site. Ive just got my first gemi after owning a ford XC. I am wanting to fit an exhaust to the gemi. I have sittin here 3 inch marine grade SS, do you think this is too much for a stock 1600?? will i lose compression running this, or should i start searching for say 2 1/4?

cheapest way is to get your hands on a TX, early model Gemini exhaust manifold and header pipe, the difference is the TX manifold has 2 pipes exit and 3 flang bolts, also get the 2 foot of pipe that continues until they join, then go to the local exhaust fitter and get 2 1/4 and a performance muffler, any bigger pipe will reduce low rev power,

Here here, Welcome aboard Tim.
With the exhaust, the general rule of thumb for a naturally aspirated car is about 1/4" bigger than factory, any bigger and you'll start to lose power. If you spend the money on a stainless system, first of all you'll never have to replace it again, and second, you could use some of your 3" stainless in the straight section after the diff.
Just a thought...

About giving away the fords.....Not sure im that convinced mate, might take a little longer ;O

reckon you could explain that for me. do you mean run the 2 1/4 then run a section of 3 after the dif. a length of 3 before the muffler??

sorry to bust in on your topic tim but here goes
yonee, can you or anyone else tell me how big an exhaust i should fit to my g200, cos im not sure of teh stock size on these, the extractors i have on have an end diameter of 2.5" so yeah what size do ya recommend, btw im also running a stage four cam that i picked up cheap (ie free, and plan on going a bit further, perhaps turbo in teh future when funds permit...

OK. I'm no exhaust 'specialist' but here goes.
Most Geminis, as standard, run 1 7/8" from the manifold to the muffler under the rear drivers side seat, and then
1 3/4" (i think) from there, through the resonator under the boot floor and out the back.
For a 1600, a full 2" system with the one muffler is perfect, however removing the resonator at the rear will give you that raspy "bark" on decelaration. For "wild" 1600's and any 1800 or 2lt I would suggest no bigger than 2 1/4 with a good free flowing muffler. If you want to take out some of the "bark", try a 2 1/2" 'bullet' style muffler added under the passengers front seat about 12 - 18" after the extractors.
Tim, what I meant was to run the system, from the manifold, in 2" to 2 1/4" to the rear muffler, then up and over the diff, connecting to your 3" straight out the back. Would look and sound pretty awesome and if maybe a bit too loud for the authorities, add in a second smaller 2 1/4" muffler under the passengers front seat floor.
On the other hand if you're going to turbo it... the less back-pressure the better! 3" or bigger all the way!!!
