Greetings Petrolheads

A dastardly thing has happened. Evil. Purest evil.

My dear Mum works at an office in O'Brien Street, Adelaide. It is across the road from a transmission and differential workshop.

She was outside, and saw a "pretty car that was all smashed up".

The owner of the workshop said that this was in fact a new Holden Monaro. A new one. Brand new.

I went there today and checked for myself.

Yep, a brand-new, Phantom (metallic black) coloured 2001-model Holden Monaro CV8 (that's the 5.7litre V8 model if you don't know - as if you don't know!!!) 6-speed manual was indeed sitting in the workshop.

The roof was irreparably smashed in, windscreen shattered. That beautiful long door down the left hand side was battered, front left 18" mag wheel replaced by a black steel wheel. The rear left mag wheel harboured sticks and grass, jammed unceremoniously between rim and tyre.

It was a sorry sight...

Apparently, the owner had been driving in the Hills, having only taken delivery of the Monaro just two days beforehand, when a motorcyclist rounded a corner on the wrong side of the road. He swerved, lost control and rolled down an embankment. The Monaro had been fitted with a Hydratrak differential and beefy D&T Exhaust system, so the reason it had been towed to the workshop was to have the Hydratrak removed to be fitted to the forthcoming replacement Monaro.

Being obsessed with gory images of vehicles in varying states of disrepair, I have taken some photos of it, and will post them on the Internet when I have developed the film.

Live fast, die pretty....

Cheers,

Dave
