I know F@#k all about these cars as i just bought one 2 weeks ago.

Whats the difference between a G160 and G161?

Will the G180 and G200 bolt up to the TG 5 speed?

Heaps of people have gone to the G180 or G200 but have kept the G160 head? Why's that?

Whats the best way to fix rust in the boot? There is quite a bit as the previous owner didn't think to pull the drain plugs out.

How hard is it to put a TG SL/X sash cluster with tacho, voltmeter and oil pressure guages into a TG SL (just a freaking clock!)?

Any answers would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Phil

G160 is not a gemini motor... I am told it is a 3 main bearing (read: ancient/weak) 1.6 litre motor out of 60s isuzus.

diff between 160/161? about 2 Horse power. g160 is older than the g161. It was a push rod engine and can found in some belletts etc.

Yes, the 5 speed will bolt up to g180 or g200 with out a prob

The g160 heads have smaller combustion chambers than the g200 head which means when it is used in conjunction with a g200 motor you get much higher compression = more power = car goes faster

As for the boot, depends on how bad the rust is, might be able to get away with cutting the rust out and use some fiber glass or you may need to weld a new boot floor in.

To fit the cluster apparently you just need to pull the old one out and put the new one in which is a matter of maybe 10 phillips head screws, disconnect a few wires at the back of the cluster and the speedo and then reconnect them. You will also need a oil pressure sender unit that screws into the side of the block (where the current oil warning unit is, get a T-piece to connect them both units up to so both be used) and there should be an unused wire in the wiring loom, may need to take some of that black tape off to get to it, that needs to be connected to the coil for the tacho to work.
