i have td wagon with a stockish 1600. the engine overheats due to what appears to be the coolant leaking into the engine and being blow out the exhaust, demonstrated by smoke out the exhaust. would you all say this is a problem with the head/ i am guessing that after copious inspection for external leaks or any other problems. to fix it i plan to work the motor a bit the process, either replacing it with a bigger one or getting a new 1600 head and boring out my block. i am told that boring the 1600 will make more power and go better. is this true? what other options are there as far as the sohc isuzu engines go |

Probably the best of the SOHC G-series Isuzu engines is the G180, due to it's near-square bore design. This is apparently good. I think the G200 has a longer stroke and is less inclined to rev as hard (given the same modifications - I'm sure to be corrected by somebody who's got a G200 with a redline of 7200rpm).
And the best part is that any of the G-SOHC engines bolt straight in - oo yeah, instant fun |

i just got a G200 fitted, running carby, not EFI. Not what i was expecting. If u ask me stick to a worked 1600. Its revs higher and has betta take off. Cant wait to see the difference when i hook up the EFI though. |

If you want big HP and don't mind spending a bit, go the 1800 block, balance it, with an early model 1600 head, bore it, port it and run a pair or webers. works a treat. you can't beat an 1800. |

There's always the 2600 out of the latish model Rodeo's - bolts straight in and you can even use the Gemini exhaust manifold for that near stock look. |
