I remember someone on here talking about turboing 1600 blow through and draw through so far i have only seen a draw through set up and wondering what si needed and how much for a blow through setup an if i only run small amounts of boost if the standard internals of the 1600 will hold up ok

I have been selling blow through turbo kits glenn, did I already send you some infor about this?

To draw through, you need to bolt a suitable turbo (one with carbon seals on the compressor) and and mount a carb on the front of the compressor. You also need to construct a cross over pipe that can bolt to the inlet manifold.

A blow through can use virtually any turbo, you put an airfilter on the front of the turbo, and you keep the carb in the standard spot. You need to make an airbox to seal the carb inlet, and make a crossover pipe that feeds the airbox. A catch with the blow through system is that you need to have the fuel pressure always above boost pressure. So depending on desired boost pressure, you need a pump that has an output pressure at least 5psi over the boost pressure.

You also need a rising rate fuel pressure regulator that will increse the amount of fuel pressure relative to boost.
This setup is inherantly better though as you can also use an intercooler. I have run both ways, and blowthrough has made me a lot more power.

As far as engine internals, I have no idea what a compeltely standard 1600 engine will be able to withstand as far as boost pressure goes, but I would guess it could hand anything up to about 25psi. Any more, and you might have sealing issues with the head gasket, an easy fix though with o-ringing of either the head or the block.

This is all obiding by a rev limit of about 6500 rpm.

On the other hand, if you have detonation problems, then any engine, no matter how strong the internals, is going to break. If you can run a sane 15 or so psi without detonation, then a completely standad 1600 engine will cope just fine.

Of course when he gets the turbo on, during the first week he'll probably spend most of the time near 6500 Smile
