The distance between pots 1 & 2, 3 & 4 is 4mm, maybe 5mm max. I could just get a set a set of venier calipers and measure it to be sure - but I thought I'd ask here first on a chance that someone can tell me roughly what size motor I have?? My guess is that it's a 1600 bored to 1800??

If you want to know your engine's capacity, then you have to measure the diameter of the cylinders. You also have to know the stroke of the crank you are using.

It will say on the side of the block what the original capacity of the engine was, ie. G161 or G180, or G200. standard bore sizes are 82, 85, and 87mm repsectively.

If you want to check the stroke of the crank, you have to measure how far a piston travels in the cylinder whilst rotating the engine.

Cheers for the measurements Ben! It's stamped G161 so its a 1600 block. I bought it through the 'for sale' forum being led to believed by the add that it was a 2ltr. I sent my old man to collect it for me from Nowra - and he just fucken collected it without any attention. Too trusting hey - anyway, I'm still pritty happy I got it - came with a 5spd, rusty new clutch? and few other bits 'n pieces. Got flat-tops with valve clearances cut into them which is exactly what I need to run my good stage 3 head - already bent a set of valves and learnt the hard way about measuring valve clearances when I heard a slight knocking noise coming from the rocker cover!!
