They wont make much difference on a standard motor, but once you get a new carby and exhaust it makes quite a big difference. Like spud said its a bit of a bugger to connect all the vacuum lines, but this makes it legal (I think).

The problem is by removing the stock air filter and installing a ramflo u enable the carbie to suck in the hot air surrounding the engine and this creates power loss - quite a bit - u really need sum cold air induction or air box.

Ummmm, please correct me if I'm wrong, but with a stock air filter and housing, doesn't the air inlet neck protrude directly over the exhaust manifold?? Would this not mean that you're getting even hotter air into your motor than a Ramflo which is on the opposite side of the motor, and therefore less likely to suck in air that is as hot as air from directly above the exhaust?? I'm sorry, but I fail to see the logic in your argument. Cheers Smile

ram flows dont suck in much hot air. they might at low speeds but as soon as you top 20 it is cold air. i have my airbox out at the moment and my feet get real cold over 20kph. if you are not convinced that the air under the bonnet is the same(or as close as makes no difference) take out the pipe from the airbox to the cabin and go for a drive.

I have a ramflo on my gemi they give a nice induction note but not a noticable power increse. If you get one place a heap of grease around the edge of the base plate, because they do not seal properly (I found out the hard way). Also the plasstic frame on the inside of the filter is too long file a couple of mm of of the bottom because if you dont the filter will sit above the base plate allowing unfilterd ait into your engine. And ensure you have the wire that holds the whole assebly down secure, because I Lost one one time.

It will be sucking slightly cooler air than the original air filter did and through a larger diameter inlet hole meaning it will not be as restricted. As Winterheart suggests, the original air filter housing is located over the exhaust manifold AND it even comes with a 'stove pipe' and butterfly valve to purposely select warm air in the "WINTER" mode.
Hot air intake helps an engine to run smoothly espectially when it's still cold. You may lose a little power but not in the same proportion as a cam change!
The thing to remember is adding a low restriction filter will only help if the original filter assembly was actually restricting air flow. I'm guessing it does a little but the original carby is probably more restrictive than the air cleaner.
Think of it like this:
If I have a 12mm garden hose with a 100mm funnel attached, will I get better flow by replacing the funnel with a 300mm version??
Not really cause the garden hose is still 12mm. The narrowest point controls the rate of flow.
