they have lots of torque rather than power and their gearboxes and diffs are stronger than standard petrol gemini ones.

Put a Diesel diff in your petorol Gemi, Ratio is better, go quiker.

A diesel Gem can go from Melb to Sydney on 1 tank of fuel!!

The most fuel efficent car of the day.

I was told a while back that the G Series motors were all designed to run on diesel??

Ok, thats the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard. Deisel engines are nothing like petrol engines.
They don't have spark plugs, they use injection and they run insane amounts of compression just to name a few big differences.

The engine fitted to the deisel variants was totally different from the normal 'G'Series engines. It was coded the '4FB1', similar to the '4FC1' as fitted to the Holden Shuttle from '82 - '86.
The design of a deisel engine is different in many, many aspects compared to a petrol engine.
The deisel Gemini was introduced in the TE range and was carried through to the TG. It had an astonishingly mind numbing 40kw, was 1800cc (1.8 litre) in capacity, compression was set at a deisel friendly 21.0:1, they had a revised set of gearbox ratios and slightly stronger internals to meet the deisels needs, and a different diff ratio of 3.58:1 also to compensate for the engines characteristics.
There is a site somewhere on the web that caters for the deisel enthusiast, i wouldn't have the foggiest what the address is, but with a little google searching you should find it.

i know a old bloke who was doing work on his diesel te ( added a turbo, intercooler etc) it had a mountain of torque and could fry 1st and 2nd! enough to scare lots of "faster" cars. only revved to 5 but
