from first to forth gear , both boxes r exactly the same ratios, the 5th gear just works as a overdrive gear i suppose, so having a 5spd would be more benifical any, if your dragging just leave it in 4th gear.

Hey,

Some people on this site think they know boats. hehe

I have driven Gemini's with both 4 Speeds and 5 speeds, and this is what I have worked out:

5 Speed 1ST = 0-15
2ND = 15-30
3RD = 30-60
4TH = 60-80
5TH = 80+

4 Speed 1ST = 0-20
2ND = 20-40
3RD = 40-60
4TH = 60+

Yes The 4 speed is faster off the blocks, not the 5 speed
they both have the same top speed. The 5 speed revs out to quik for worked motors.

Plus the fact that the sinkro in second allways wares out in the 5 speeds, making it a bitch to change into 2ND (slower again)

To combat this problem (if anyone else has the problem) Drop the gearbox oil and put Dextron 3 in it. Makes gear changes alot easier, I have been running a 5 speed with a fuct 2ND sinkro for a year with no probs.

I prefer a 5 Speeds thou. More gears to change, tats all.
4 speeds r quiker.

cheers.

ratios are differnt. but the 4 speed has a lower top speed to a 5 speed box

A reason why drag geminis might use 4speed boxes as opposed to 5speeds? if youve got power, you will at some stage smash a box regardless of what it is. 4speeds are cheaper
