Eh Boys and Gals i am looking at Painting my new Gemini its a TX Coupe and i want to know what you think i should do? Take it back to bare metal etc? Also what is Etch prime? Just need any help you lot can give me.

yeah mate take it back to bare metal. etch primer fills up little scratches/imperfections in the surface (only little ones though), is the body straight? im slightly wishing id bought that shell

Etch primer etches into the metal to provide a protectant against future corrosion I believe. It also provides a nice solid base coat.
Best way to go about it is to strip it back to bare metal, do your body repairs, etch prime and then high fill prime it. The high fill with fill any imperfections and really makes life easier in the end.
Acrylic paint works fine, it just takes a little more work to get a shine. My car uses acrylic and it looks pretty good I think.
2pac is also an option as you can now get isocynate free 2pac paints which are safe to work with at home. The benefit of 2pac is it is a harder wearing paint and has better gloss off the gun. |
