lots of talk about how it's illegal to cut your parcel shelf. This is true to an extent. In SA you can cut holes as long as they are a minimum of 200mm from any seat belt anchorage point or child restraint mount.

also ive heard if u cut more than 10% it becomes illegal
as i said ive heard dont know if it is true but.

EDIT: I will leave this one up as an example, but I really don't want people posting heresay and rumour in this forum, if you can't state it as fact and cite your sources, don't post it.

Thats right. I rang and spoke to the an inspector at SA DOT in January regarding this issue and he clearly pointed this out to me. We were doing an install on my engine builders HQ stateman show car. This is not here-say.

Dont even bother cutting it out my speakers sound sik ( they sound like subs) all i did was make a parcell shelf and raised it abit so i didn't have to cut in to the metal and so the speaker is just above the metal..... do it this way Trust ME

by using 20mm thick mdf or even making it rasie up

have done lots of sterio installs and the firmer your parcel shelf the better you sound always. reinforce your shelf and you wont regret it

i was talking to the guy at tonkins and you can cut the metal if the cars a pre 85 other wise you can get defected and if you do you can just weld metal over the holes so therefore you car is stuffed
