put the money in the bank and save up until you can afford some decent work. and get some mates with the skills to help out on the cheap. a 32/36 webber and some port/cam work might be the first things to do if you're in a hurry! Sound like you better spend the money on a new clutch and throwout bearing tho (and probably some machining now by the sound of it)

cheapest power mod you could do with that money would be a better exhaust

i bought a TE wagon with a 20,000k old rebuilt motor that an old guy had driven to work every day since he bought it, i dont think he ever shifted above 3000rpm

ANYWAYS

i wacked a set of extractors and 2 inch exhaust on it with straight thru mufflers and it (felt like) a 50% improvement

had a drag with a stocky TE and killed it so it must have made some difference

so yeah go an exhaust, good thing about it is if u work the head or anything else, u can keep your exhaust and it will make any improvements better in the long run
