what model is it? ive got a tc without pollution control, so no cat (or muffler), just a resonator. ive dumped a set of 4-2-1 genies onto a 2 inch pipe without a muffler. Apart from a mild cam its totally stock and it sounds deep as!

Tell the exhaust guys what sound you want.

By "hotted up lancer" do you mean a riced out lancer with a milo tin on the back farts its ass off? If so then please promptly shoot yourself in the face Smile

Unless you are talking about the proper GSR lancer turbo or evo lancers (PROPER ONES.. not just bodykitted rice buckets) then you are probably going to need a turbo to emulated that kinda sound.

Probably the only way to get a better sound out of your current system is to add a slightly bigger, have a muffler and no resonator. I had that setup on my old car and it sounded OK.. it did fart once in high revs but it was ok for fun.

If you like the tinny zing sound, then its lightly muffled small diameter pipe that will do it. My guess is that you muffler isn't very good in the flow department. The multi valve cylinder heads also play a part. Extractors will actually get you away from the zing sound you want, all the zingy cars have standard exhausts with a better muffler on the back.

If you want a nice deep note, but not boomy, you need a bigger diameter but muffled exhaust. Like 2.25" with a straight through muffler and a hotdog, with extractors. I think this sounds great, but its personnal preference.

You have to appreciate Bens comment! That zing sound is the biggest waste of time! After a while, it just sounds like a lawnmower. Driving for distances will drive you mad. The deeper note is way more tolerable!
My mate chris had his corolla sx upgraded (no extractors) just a wider exhaust with a smallish muff Smile He hates it now, after 3 weeks.

Make sure you know what you want. 300 bucks later (minimum) and youll be stuck with that noise for the rest of the cars life (unless you want to spend more money to rememdy the situation).
