thanks doomboy for that info, could anyone also tell me why on some turbo conversions on geminis the pipe from the turbo to the inlet manifold doesnt just go straight there some have a extension past the down pipe to where it bolts onto the manifold?

cos there tight asses and dont get a menderal bend in the pipe so they cut and weld it . its a cheep alternative. for the cost of a bend ($30) u would get heaps better flow.

The idea is to break up the laminar flow from the compressor outlet. I cant remember all the physics of the dynamicas of that sort of airflow, but you get better mixture distibution to all cyinders if the crossover pipe basically tees off to the manifold instead of having a bend that directs flow straight in.

This is more in the case of a draw through carb setup, which all the ones you would have seen probably are, wheres if the fuel was delivered within the inlet manifold itself (MPFI) instead of before the turbo, then a smooth pipe into the manifold would not be so bad, as the fuel is injected very close to the inlet ports after the air has divided into each inlet runner.
