help info in panel vans

Im Thinking of selling my tg sedan to buy a panelvan as my mates and I go away camping and i think it would be more confortable then sleeping in the passenger or driver seat.

but talking to my dad about it and he recons the gemini panelvan or wagon would be to short to sleep in.

so does anyone have a panelvan which they have slept in and how is it done up in the back to sleep in.
do ypu have any photos.

Depends how tall you are

One way to ensure enough room is have the small cargo barrier thing on hinges, so all you do is put the front seats forward, fold the hinged barrier bit down and you've got a bed.

As for how to do the back up, I'm thinking of using material in the vain of a camping sleeping mat. Clark rubber should have a similar material that they can cut to fit the shape of the cargo area. Cover it in marine grade carpet and there you've got a comfortable bed that can be taken out and cleaned if need be

Only problem, have to take the sub box out to sleep in it.

im setting up mine to sleep in too, the tray is approximatly 130cm wide and 160cm long, (thats slightly rounded up for rear carpet measurements) the little flap that the other fella was talking about would give you an extra 10-15cm (that hing is a great idea)

if you sleep on an angle you have about 205cm

In the back of the BreadVan I put a thick foam mattress - standard legth job which is about 20cm longer than the load area. I bend it up at the end, hard against the barrier.

Then, when I go to sleep, I flip both the seats forward and organise the mattress to basically cover the load barrier, then my pillow goes on top of that. It's really comfortable and does the trick perfectly without having to molest the load barrier.

I'm 6'1" (six foot, one inches) tall and can fit diagonally.

When I'm with my girlfriend, who's pretty tall at 5 foot 10 inches, we can sleep like I described above and it's not too bad. In fact, the only reason we don't sleep really late is because I never have anything to cover the windows and the sunlight wakes us up!

The mattress will probably be about $40-70 depending on quality - make sure its the thick sort or you'll be in pain.

They don't want to be bent up against the load barrier the first couple of times, but put the mattress in the same way each time and it'll sorta mould to the shape you want.

How good is that?

I have a foam double bed matress and cut it to about 1 inch bigger than the complete tray area in my PV, it was awsome to sleep in i'm 6ft 2inch and slept perfectly,

the previous owner of my pv was a surfer and always slept in it,

yeah the only trick is that you mattress must be about as thick as the load barrier so that it will not break your neck,
