does anyone know how much it would cost to recondition a five speed gearbox and what exactly would be involved? can you do it yourself or are you better off sending it away somewhere... any opinions?

I went browsing for a diesel G200 5 speed about 2 weeks ago at a 4X4 wrecker, the guy told me that he could do a fresh complete rebuild with 6 month unconditional warranty for approx. $825. I thought it was a little steep, but i have no other experiences to base that on. I personally was looking to pay around $500 for the the exact same thing, but have to shop around more for other quotes. To see where i (and my wallet) stand.
