When i have the engine running, it runs fine, even when i am driving. but as soon as i turn it off, water just drips and drips, around the water pump. Is the water pump rooted? because on the same level, at the back of the engine it leaks oil pretty bad. So could it just be the gaskets? I am continously adding water to it all the time. Please help? |

if it leaks around the waterpump gasket then i'd say its the gasket. wheres the oil leaking from the back of the engine. around the rocker cover gasket? both easy fixes |

There is also a "drain" hole in the casing of most water pumps, usually on the bottom. If the sealed bearing in the pump is shot (but not necessarily noisy), it will dribble water out that hole.
As your engine is running, the water is soaking up heat from the engine block, passing through the radiator, losing some heat, and back into the block to start again. When you stop the car, the residual heat from the block heats the water up a bit more than when it was running, increasing the pressure in the whole cooling system. This is the most common time that a leak will occur, or a hose will burst.
You're going to have to pull the water pump off anyway. you'll then be able to see if it's leaking out that "drain" hole (there will be a water stain around the hole).
Hope this helps,
Yonnee. |
