Hi all. i [as you may or may not know] have a te w/lpg....anyways, i have what i assumed was a standard cam in my engine, but now im not so sure. the cam in question has no identifiable marks, except for what looks like apparent shot-peening on the shaft[not the lobes], and gives the car a different feel when driving. instead of revving out to 4500 rpm then petering out powerwise,[as my last 'stock' engine did], the cam somehow makes the engine less "punchy"[responsive down low] but more happy to wind out to 5000+rpm.[ i havent been game to go further], it seems to have a more smoother power application,[no definable powerband] better firing..[ie my idle miss is gone], and the car likes to cruise happily uphill in 5th @120kmh. this has got me fucked, as the car usually is a bitch to drive on lpg, even after all of eggy's work. i put this cam in on thursday, and its done this ever since. the valve clearences are to factory spec, and the car is great. However, as soon as i flick it to petrol, the car becomes a shitload faster than it used to be on ulp, and almost dangerous. WHAT THE FUCK DO I HAVE???????? anyone know???? like i said, its got me fucked.
any one help?
thanx heaps.
rob.

Two possible scenarios. You've either come accross a "mild" reground cam, which is why it has no markings. Or, you've hit on a cam that has such perfect cam timing that it actually makes the motor work at its absolute optimum. Come accross this once before. Where I used to work we had a chassis dyno. One day a customer came in with his 'ol beat up HQ plumbers sedan for a tune up. First run, 240hp AT THE REAR WHEELS!! After new plugs, rejetting carb, reset dissy and a bit of a play we squeezed nearly 250hp out of her. Further investigation found that our own machine shop had rebuilt the motor. Took a look at the specifications...REBUILT TO STOCK, Apart from a .030" bore. One of those rare "freaks" of nature where everything comes together.
Have fun!

Yonnee.
