Not enough
Connect a tacho, nail the throttle and see how high she revs before either:
a) she won't rev any more
b) she falls apart
Seriously, redline would be about 5500-6000rpm. Unless your engine is build revs, a standard engine shouldn't need to be revved past that. My slightly worked g161 made peak at 5500rpm and although she would rev sweetly to 6500rpm, there wasn't much point as the power would tail off probably 10hp.
Diesel factory tachos are redlined at 5k aren't they, petrol at 6k? |

Depends on the motor/modifications. (is there an echo???)
Most autos dont get a hard time, so they get carboned up and wont go as hard. ( I said most!! )
Stock motors get 5500 to 6000 and sometimes more but they dont make power. One guy I knew had an early big-port head that he said would go to 7000. I've also ridden in a turbo 1600 that had $8000 spent on the bottom end, Sierra Cosworth pistons, running up to 23lbs boost, etc., would pull sweetly all the way to 8000!
Tough bottom-end these Gems. |

Especially the 2ltr rods, they're quite tuff. not unlike small block chev rods! Infact they look very similar in size. |
