The Honda Scamp is their little err... well, I was gonna say hatch, but it's only hatch-shaped, because like the early Civics, there ain't no hatch!!!

They're the ones that came between the Honda Z (exactly like the one that Malcolm split in half and turned into two motorscooters in that classic Aussie film) and the first model Civic of 1973.

I saw some other killer classic Hondas the other day at the Bay to Birdwood Classic - a Honda S600 convertible and a Honda S800 coupe. Like their namesake in the 21st century, the 2-litre S2000, the S600 and S800 were tiny, MG Midget-sized sports cars with engines lifted directly from Honda's heavy involvment in motorbikes.

Able to rev to around 8000rpm, these little screamers made plenty of good noise - the S600 I was driving near the other day sounded beasty!!! With four carburettors, one of each cylinder, that's no surprise.

Perhaps most bizarre is that the S600 is chain-driven, rather than having a diff. When the foot is planted, the rear doesn't dump down, but raises up before the whole thing rockets away.

They just don't make weird cars like they used to .
