Exhaust Size & Hotdog

Hi, i was told that for an exhaust on a gemini it has to be no bigger than 2 inches and it can't have a hotdog because it won't create enough back pressure. is this true and if yes what would it do to the engine. thanks for your help

you can have pretty much whatever you want its all talk from what i have seen....a gemini we had only ran stock headers with no exhaust and still went alright....and my 'legal' gemini has 2 1/4 inch with extractors and one straight thru muffler and it hasnt lost any power...its faster

2 inches is plenty even for a warm gemini mate. The style of the extractors make 90% of the difference, I recommend tri-y's (4-2-1). Stick with a stock muffler, these make bugger all difference but you'll get no cop hassles from noise.
Most people get fooled by the illusion that if their car is louder its definately faster. A bigger tail-pipe on its own will not do a thing, as for all its the manifold and amount of "vacuum" that draw out the waste gas.
I could go on but I wont.

Dude, everyone that puts in an exhaust on a gem, usually has 2 1/4". Anything over 2 1/2" will start losing power, so if its "all talk" as you say, go ahead and put a nice big 3" zorst on your gemi, im sure you will go far.

go for the 4" mate and get a big exhaust techknologie sticker on teh side so every one knows you just got jipped out of $4000
or you could just go one where and pay $400 ish and get 421 extractors and 2" sports sytem and a tip you wont look back
remeber its only a gemini

though bit different if you have a different motor in the car ie import then you can go bigger

i have a 2 1/2 inch system on my gem. goes awesome. but i have a 2litre engine with a little work and a 32/36 webber on it. and for the record again. all this shit about back presure is crap. the extracters, or exhaust manifold will provide any you need. the reason a big exhaust causes problems is cause you get turbulence in it which slows down the airflow so the engine cant breeath properly.

It's all proportional. The factors are:
1/ How much ya wanna spend. The exhaust dudes will put on anything you ask for if you have the money. Common sense says they want your cash.
2/ What state of mod the engine is in. A big bore exhaust is less restrictive meaning at high revs it doesn't limit performance. At lower revs however it affects the economics and drivability.
3/ How loud you wanna be. Big pipe means louder.
4/ What type of driving the car will be doing. If it is your daily driver it isn't expected to be redlining all the time. A smaller exhaust is more realistic for daily driving.
5/ How much you wanna stand out. This is as applicable to the dudes ya wanna impress, the cops ya wanna avoid and the thief ya wanna kill for ripping ya car off. If it looks hot it is more likely to attract attention... from all types.

Personally I'd settle for a nicely bent 2" system with a low restriction muffler. Gemini's can run well on such a system. They did have an unusually large exhaust stock outa the factory to begin with for a 1.6 litre engine.
