mine does it to, its just the throttle cable gets stuck, try sticking your foot at the back of the peddle and bringing it towards you and it comes unstuck and bring the idle down, thats what mine does anyway. hope that helps if not hope ya find out what is wrong!
cheers mate

A very common cause is the automatic choke. After a while they become set too high, and they also tend to stick.

Also about what the other 2 say, it is mandatory for racing to have double throttle springs... It's good to stick a second one on anyway... I even prefer the feel of a much harder throttle

if you spray some rp7 or wd40 down the line where the accelerator goes into the plastic casing it might help, it also could be the return spring as suggested, of your carby, sometimes when its on its way out it will pump too much fuel so your car may adjust itself to idel higher, this is what i think my car has done, it idols at 1000rpm when ur foot is on the clutch and at about 1300 to 1500 when its off, i havn't replaced the return spring as it looks and seems to work fine, but mine doesn't do it all the time, it depends, its great cos on cold days the gem warms herself up quicker

that high idle sounds like auto choke. to stop dont hit the accelator pedal when you on assc. if you want to make the cbale come back put a stiffer spring or whack on another return spring on.
