how much boost can you run on a standard engine?

how much boost do you reckon you can run on a standard 1.8litre engine before it will break. also how much boost do you reckon the 1.8 litre diesel could take. my mate just wanted to "whack a turbo on it and see what it can do" then another dude thought he should do sumthin with his diesel gem too. there seemed to be a few turbos lyin around. the engine seem happy at six pounds boost but we were just wonderin what we could put em up to before things start to break.

I reckon a standard engine could handle about 40psi of boost before breaking anything.

Of course, you would need some really good fuel for that.

I used to run 25psi on a standard G200, with no problems except slight detonation, but then again, I wasn't running anything better than optimax.

you can run as much boost as what you have petrol for.

if its tuned right you can run just about as much boost as you want
