Your muffler must be connected to the exhaust via a flange.
This is an adaptor plate of sorts that makes it easier to remove and refit a muffler.
Some cars exhausts have them fitted at the bottom of thier extractors, again to make removal/refitting easier.
Most exhaust techs simply weld the exhaust pipe to the muffler ends for simplicity, costs, and some believe better quality.
Your flange may either need a new gasket, or it may have developed a leak in the weld.
Start the car and let it idle, move your hand around the leaking area, determine whether its a gasket leak or a weld leak.
A gasket leak is a simple fix - Purchase the appropriate gasket & some Ultra Blue gasket sealant (specifically made for high temp), let the exhaust cool down, undo the two bolts to the flange, remove old gasket, scrape off excess gasket goo for a clean mating surface, fit new item applying sealant to all mating surfaces on gasket and flange, leave for 1/2 hour or so to cure, start car and let the exhaust temp cure the rest.
A weld leak is also a simple fix - Take car down to any local exhaust or welding specialist shop, let them do the rest. Simple.
