they are the butterflys on the second barrell in the XE falcon carby. as opposed to the niki carby on a gemini, they secondaries open mechanically by a bracket on the linkages for the carby, so after you put your fut down a certain amount, the secondary butterfly will open. on the niki, the secondary butterfly opens after a certain amount of vacuum in the manifold which happens at something like 4500rpm. if you want to notice a big difference, fit a 32/36 Weber carby (has mechanical secondaries) to your car. this carby comes off a 2L ford cortina or 2L ford escort and will cost you about $40 from a wreckers. you will need an adaptor plate which will cost about $35 from autobarn. if your engine is a 1.6 you will need to get the carby rejetted because it will be jetted too rich for your car. any carby place will do that, should cost about $60.
good luck, hope that helped a bit,
