charge light staying on

hi i got a problem with my gem i think its pretty common but cant remember, what it is the charge light is staying on and the car wont idle, but it runs and as far as i know its still charging cause i drove it home and it still starts now, any tricks i should look at first?

check all your belts and shit are ok

last time it happened to em one of my belts were dragging on the floor

last time it happened to me my alternator was fucked..
still charged but thats all it did

My charge light was coming on and my car would run for 20 secs and stop coz the alternator was shagged and I have a TE so the fuel pump runs off the alternator!

alternator regulator, its the black box on the side of engine bay

thanks guys just fixed it revved the shit out of it and the charge light went off and it now idles.

your alternator is on the way out then.. it will come back

yeah i think it was more likely mud and dirt build up as i went to a rally track and thats when it happened
