Timing chain rattle maybe ?

If the guides are fucked it knocks really loud and the engine sounds like a truck.

Could be you big end or conrod bearings aswell but then again should do it all the time or might just do it when the oil thins out..

also could be a gudgen pin knock thats the pin that hold your piston to the con rod..

cheers

Sounds like a big end to me. Time to save for a new motor, drive it very carefully and make sure it's topped with oil.

Probably Big End bearings. Had a commodore that knocked when i accelerated and it turned out to be the big end. If it was a Gudgeon Pin it would do it all the time.

Cheers

it sounds like a big end.

i had the same symptoms with my g200...

you have 2 options, replace the motor...$300 will get you a decent secondhand g161,
or rebuild the old one. if you have a 1600, ditch it and replace. if its a rarer g180-g200, rebuild.

a crank grind requires rods resized, and all up,[excluding bearings, and if you do the labour], shouldnt cost more than $220. [mine cost $211.20].

bearings will cost up to $110 for a complete bottom end kit. [acl].

so its up to you.

hope this helps, and be prepared to get dirty,

rob.
