With $400 try a 32/36 weber and a bigger cam. Then save up and buy a 2L sohc out of a later model RS. Hope this helps.

You'd have to ring around to find prices and where you can find the engine in your area.

if you have enough money by saving you should go and try and find a twin cam lotus engine that come out in the older escorts and they F**king fly!! but if you can't get one of them you should look in the trading post i have seen a couple over the last 6 months as i was going to buy an escort !! but if money isn't a prob go for the twin cam lotus engine !!

A guy from my work has a twin cam 2L turbo RS2000 making 450KW at 10500RPM at the flywheel. This a cosworth motor so if you save up for a few years you might be able to afford one heck you might even be able to find one.

The 2 litre engines were also avaliable in the Cortina's, a mate of mine had one. He did alot of the work himself, but from memory what he had done was... Sierra 5 speed, rebuilt engine, blueprinted, balanced, bored 60 thou, home port job on the inlet manifold, 32/36 Weber rejetted to suit power output and driving characteristics, slightly ported head professionally flowed with a cam recommendation (also match ported on inlet and exhaust, custom ground cam from Kelford Cams, Crane electronic ignition with Accel Super coil. It went very hard - damn hard actually. He used to rev it to 11,000rpm every week without skipping a beat, it's best 1/4 mile time was a 14 flat. Not too shabby for a SOHC single carb fed 2 litre that was bought for $350 including ancillaries, then worked for approx $750. He saved a bundle on labour as he pulled it all apart himself and put it all back together.

11000 rpm some people talk shit at least you could have said 8000rpm which would have been more belivable. The single carby is not able to flow enough air for those engine speeds the standard internals would not handle it either. And if this is what the Tacho said obvisly it was way out.Ive been driving and racing ford 2ltrs for 10 years now I'm having a play with a g200 just for something different

Mate, i dont post unless i have either witnessed or know for a fact about a particular subject - otherwise i state that i'm unsure. The bloke went through three tacho's, the first was a Di Pricol gauge, it literally melted the wiring due to it constantly reading past it's 8,000rpm limit. The second was an Auto-meter Pro Comp that read to 11,000rpm, i witnessed the needle hitting the 11,000 point countless times. The third was a Mallory Pro-Comp gauge that was fitted after the Auto-meter was stolen with his stereo gear. It too read to 11,000rpm countless times. All 3 gauges were bought brand new.
I never said anything about the internals being standard, sure i said rebuilt but not to what extent. I left the detailed internal specs out of the post to keep it short. His father is an engineer that used to work on Escorts that raced around Bathurst in the early eighties, he now owns a machine shop and performed many internal mods to the engine at no charge (this was for his own son remember), from race prepping the crank by knife edging and lightening it, the pistons were apparently half the weight of the originals as they were custom made by the old man himself, the 32/36 carb was radically modified after a 350 Holley was experimented with - he decided to stick with what he knew best - again the finer details were left out to shorten the post. As i also stated, the head was ported with a professional flow bench, he said that not much was taken out to help keep air velocity high. He actually took bits out here and there and also added metal to reshape the inlet and main port to get his desired figures. The cam was chosen with one purpose in mind - MAKE IT REV IT'S ARSE OFF!
And believe me, it f%cking did it like a rotary.
If you have been racing Ford 2 litres like you said you have, (not only would you have already witnessed a Kent engine rev this hard) then the name Steve Rannigan would be very familiar, this is his father and co engine designer/builder/machiner. How many arrogant and narrow minded people do you think he took for a thrash to prove his expertise - well actually it wasn't many as his mates knew that he knew his shit, but the ones that he did take for a drive mumbled apologies through the wide grins on their faces.
The bloke originally posting the query asked a basic question, i just gave him a basic answer.
The 14sec 1/4 was performed on pump fuel and road tyres with an unexperienced (with drag racing) driver. It could have gone alot faster, but i'm not going to post a 1/4 mile time that could have been - only a time that was actually recorded.
Trust me, if i say the thing revved that hard - it did. Reread my first sentence of this post if you have to.
Jasyn...
