after reading several posts on big valve heads I thought I had the information to find one (the 7,14,21 rule and the 00....number on the inlet valve ) As my gem heads were still on motors I looked for the 7,14,21 numbers I only have 5,6,20,23 how unlucky is that!so I thought I was going to have to buy another when curiosity got the better of me and I decided to pull on off to check.the number on the head was 23 the number on the inlet valve was 05977 so by the rules that proved it was n't a big valve head. Then I decided to mesure the valves because they did look rather big.Guess what the inlet messures 42mm the exhaust 34mm a big valve head so the two rules mentioned above dont mean a thing the head did come from a TX though. Now I have my big valve head I can start porting and the 32/36 webber conversion hopefully I'll have it done by the time my g200 comes back from the machine shop!

It's possible that a previous owner of the head has fitted the larger valves. Do you have any history of it? (the head).

Methinks you have made a very simplistic assumption, my original comment (now taken massively out of context) was that a 7,14,21 etc.. should be a big valve head. Feel free to correct me...

What I didn't say but what you've incorrectly assumed is that this means that heads WITHOUT these numbers DON'T have the larger inlet valves...

Does this make sense?

Yes that makes sense but its not just your post that says it.Many posts make the same statement with out clarifying that not all big valve heads have these numbers

I know the car has done pizza deliveries for 7 years it was rebuilt then and lasted till I took it in a burnout comp. The ports messure bigger and the combustion chamber is smaller so I tend to belive these valves would be originally in this head.

well, i had a tx for a while, and although it had the small valve head, it was match ported and had huge valves..

i guess you just gotta check everything carefully, and go with what youve got.
