Make sure you wash them from the inside out and you would probably use warm soapy water. To oil them buy some filter oil, K&N makes this.

I think its turps you use to clean them. Then buy finer filter or uni filter oil, and apply as per instructons. They also tell you how to wash them.

What brand socks are we speaking about?

Remove the foam off the support frame. Unifilter and Finer Filter both suggest using turps then warm soapy water. Squeeze them/it dry (don't wring) and leave them/it to dry in a location out of direct sunlight.

Once dry place them/it in a zip lock bag, apply a reasonable quantity of their specific oil (don't use any alternative stuff) and gently knead it into the foam.

remove from bag and restore them onto the support frame. Refit to the carby. Store the zip bag away for next time.

Now the fun begins.... getting the oil goo off everything!
